In 2014, we got engaged in Belize and loved doing a trip that merged lazy tropical days on a quaint island (Ambergris Caye) with mystial ancient Mayan Ruins. that trip prompted the idea to do a "destination" wedding with a similar theme. We found a tiny private island off of the coast of Honduras to rent for the event, and started to plan. (Take a look at the web site I built for THAT here). The idea was to keep it really small, and pick up the tab for the whole event...folks just had to get there and be able to chill in serious gilligan's Island style. Sounds like a dream come true, right?
Well. It turns out, not everyone is quite as *ahem* adventurous as we are, and the whole thing unravelled. Not to worry! We are nothing if not flexible, so we went back to the drawing board.
Like many of our friends, we both have "done" the whole formal wedding thing the first time around (and really, I mean, look how that turned out!). We spent a lot of $$, and dealt with a lot of stress, ultimately to please a lot of OTHER people. So when we put our BRAAAINS together, we kept one thing in mind - what was MOST important to us was that our friends would be able to join us. We then thought about the best times we've had together with our friends, and naturally, the Providence Zombie Crawl came up.
People have varying reactions when they hear about what we're doing. In the pool at RIU Bambiu in the DR, our Friends Tom & Joanne (Tom is Rich's Best un-dead Man) said "AWESOME!". When I told my mother, she said "HOW old are you?!" My bff JEn tried not to shudder in revulsion at the idea of spending the night with literally SEVERAL THOUSAND Zombies in the containment zone.
So this time we're doing it right. It's about us...a celebration of our UNDEAD love for each other and our mutual ENJOYMENT of BRAINS. It's all about having fun with our friends, and making memories to last a lifetime.
I guarantee if you join the walking wed, when you are 90 and wearing diapers, you will remember this night.
Why a Zombie Wedding?!?!
